08/10/2017  A juvenile green sea turtle was observed floating near a sea wall in New Pass in the Sarasota Bay. A concerned member of the public rescued the turtle in a scoop net and transported it down the road to Mote for rehabilitation. Blood work reveled a very low blood glucose and radiographs revealed that the turtle’s GI tract was full of gas and fecal matter. “Captain Greg” was given subcutaneous fluids with dextrose and placed in a rehab. pool with very low water level.
08/11/2017  Captain Greg did defecate a very small amount. Animal is still receiving subcutaneous fluids daily. Waiting until animal defecates more consistently before offering food in case there is an intestinal blockage or other issue. Animal is active and able to rest on the bottom of the tank.
08/19/2017  Captain Greg is foraging for food on his own. He/she is occasionally exhibiting some odd, possible neurologic behavior. Is being administered two different antibiotics and was given a de-wormer and anti-inflammatory injection to treat any possible sepsis or blood flukes that may be affecting the brain.
09/07/2017  Due to poor prognosis and lack of response to a variety of medical treatments, animal was euthanized.
