02/14/2026 “Jicama” is a subadult green sea turtle found positively buoyant and unable to dive off Longboat Key on February 12th. Upon intake she was weighed and drydocked overnight. The following day, 02/13, “Jicama” had blood drawn and was given fluids. She was admitted to a tank at low water, 70 degrees, and 10 ppt.
02/28/2026 Several days after arrival, this turtle was eating all seafood and lettuce offered. The water level in her tank was gradually raised as well as the temperature and salinity. “Jicama” was started on antibiotics.
03/20/2026 “Jicama” continues to improve. This animal is no longer positively buoyant and can rest flat on the bottom of her tank. She continues to be an excellent forager. “Jicama” has since been taken off of antibiotics and is only receiving daily sea turtle vitamins to supplement her diet.
04/01/2026 After evaluation by vet staff, “Jicama” was approved for release. She was successfully released 04/01 on Longboat Key!
