04/06/2024 Turtle was found floating on the east side of Holmes Beach near Key Royale Drive in Manatee County. Turtle has fibropapilloma tumors present. Kingfisher was given subcutaneous fluids and injectable antibiotics and is now in a small pool in very shallow water.
04/09/2024 Kingfisher has started eating small amounts of seafood.
04/19/2024 Kingfisher is eating all seafood offered. Turtle was moved to a larger pool so he has more room to swim Was switched from an injectable antibiotic to an oral antibiotic to minimize handling and stress.
05/02/2024 Turtle was transported to Veterinary Surgery Center of Sarasota for a CT scan.
05/11/2024 Due to rapid tumor growth including around the eyes, on the carapace, and cloaca indicating poor prognosis, turtle was humanely euthanized.
