Final Disposition
08/07/14 Turtle was found floating at the surface and unable to dive. Turtle had a boat strike wound near the rear of its carapace, and constriction marks on both front flippers from fishing line/netting entaglement. Its left front flipper has only a stump remaining, with severe contriction mark at base of flipper. The turtle also has a boat strike wound on the front of it’s face. All wounds are old and healing.
12/20/2014 Veterinary decision was made to amputate left front flipper stump, so surgery was performed. The damaged rear section of the carapace was surgically removed as well.
3/28/2015 Turtle continues to recover from wounds. Appetite varies, but turtle is often eating well.
5/15/2015 Turtle continues to heal and has been taken off all medications.
8/28/2015 Continues to heal, but is back on antibiotics to aid the recovery process.
10/23/2015 Examination and blood work look good. Turtle is undergoing final assessment for release.
11/06/2015 Turtle was released in 10,000 Islands, Collier County.
