01/19/2026 This subadult Green sea turtle was found floating and unable to submerge. Upon intake, “Spud” was weighed, had blood drawn and was given fluids and an injection. She was offered seafood, seagrass and lettuce but was not interested. She is having no problem defecating.
02/09/2026 “Spud” continues to improve. Her tank was raised to full water and the salinity is at full. After several days of no interest in seafood, lettuce, or seagrass, Spud has started eating seagrass and squid. This turtle was also started on antibiotics.
02/23/2026 “Spud” has been doing very well. She is consistently foraging seafood and lettuce. Her previous buoyancy issues are no longer present, and this animal can dive and rest on the bottom with no problem. “Spud” has been taken off antibiotics, and is only receiving daily vitamins to supplement her diet.
02/26/2026 After evaluation by our vet staff, “Spud’ was medically cleared for release and was successfully released on Longboat Key!
