Experienced Mote Educators lead your field trip program giving your students access to Mote’s world-class marine research and helping them explore a variety of science topics.
Mote field trips are aligned with Florida State Science Standards.

Mangrove Kayaking Trip
- Description: Up for an adventure? Gear up and get ready for a journey exploring the mangrove & seagrass ecosystems of Summerland Key with one of our professional educators. This program includes a behind the scenes tour of Mote’s International Center for Coral Reef Research and Restoration facility (IC2R3) and a plankton tow net STEM activity.
- Duration: 5 hours

Coral & Fish ID Workshop + Coral Reef Snorkel
- Description: Who makes up a coral reef? In this lesson, students will be able to identify common coral and fish species found on Florida’s reef tract. After the lesson, students will board a snorkel charter to visit one of our beautiful reefs here in the Florida Keys to practice their identification skills!
- Duration: Full day (9 am-4 pm)

Coral Health & Disease + Coral Snorkel
- Description: Most of us have probably heard about climate change, but do you know how it is impacting our coral reefs and ocean ecosystems? In this lesson, students will learn about how our reefs are being affected by climate change, including global warming and ocean acidification. After the lesson, students will board a snorkel charter to visit one of our beautiful reefs here in the Florida Keys!

Behind the Scenes: Mote's Coral Restoration
- Description: Discover the science behind coral restoration through an in-depth tour of Mote’s International Center for Coral Reef Research & Restoration facility (IC2R3). A Mote Educator will lead you through our land-based coral nursery, outdoor research areas, and various indoor laboratories. Afterwards, students will participate in a hands-on experience practicing coral restoration techniques in Mote’s land-based coral nursery!
