Join us each month for a fun-filled, ocean-themed learning experience led by Mote’s professional marine science educators. Participants will work in teams to develop and implement marine science research projects and get the inside scoop on the exciting research going on at Mote. They’ll work on problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills through STEM based projects while increasing ocean literacy and awareness through experiential learning.
Important Notes: Price for Homeschool Days represents the student plus one chaperone per family (required). ONLY registered participants are allowed to attend Homeschool Days (no younger or older non-registered siblings). Prior to registering, please review our program policies linked below.

Homeschool Advanced Program (Summerland Key)
Mote’s Homeschool Advanced is a semester-long program that meets monthly to dive deeper into the cutting-edge science happening at Mote’s coral restoration lab. Each semester includes an on-going project and the chance to step into the lab alongside Mote scientists. Students will get the opportunity to experience a different component of Coral Restoration each month, from raising coral babies to the aquaculture of algal grazers. This is a drop-off program.
The Advanced Program includes all five themed sessions in one easy registration, giving learners a full season of immersive, connected marine science activities. Because families commit to the full series, the program is offered at a reduced overall rate, making it both enriching and cost-effective.
Students build on skills week after week and gain confidence as budding marine scientists. This is an independent student experience, so parents do not attend the sessions.

Kayaking for Plankton: Microscopic Life of the Sea – February 20th 2026 & April 24th 2026
Parent-student pairs paddle to 2–3 designated points (near shore, near seagrass, open patch). There they will use plankton nets to tow gently behind a kayak for 2–3 minutes per location. They will empty the contents into labeled jars (with seawater) and discover what you’ve netted back at the lab!
Beach Clean-Up & Citizen Science Survey – March 13th 2026 & May 8th 2026
Participants will conduct a guided beach clean-up, collecting trash and sorting it (plastic, metal, glass, etc.) They will record quantities and types of debris as a citizen science project and count and observe wildlife along the way (shorebirds, crabs, shells).
