Blazing trails for women in science; inspiring generations of people from ocean experts to school children; swimming with sharks to learn about them; and founding a world-class marine laboratory that turned 60 in 2015 — this is just a snapshot of the life and legacy of Dr. Eugenie Clark. After carrying out a distinguished career spanning almost 75 years, raising four children and inspiring countless scientists, students and others, Dr. Clark will be remembered for her legacy of amazing discoveries and their ripple effects around the world. 

You can honor Clark’s life by supporting her Lab through the Dr. Eugenie Clark Memorial Research Endowment Fund. Together, Genie and Mote Marine Laboratory’s scientific research have a long-standing history of international marine science reach and impact. The Dr. Clark endowment will help support Mote scientists in their research efforts consistent with our founder’s diverse work including international partnerships.

Genie’s spirit and passion for science will forever be the foundation of Mote Marine Laboratory.

TRIBUTES

Dr. Clark was recently honored in the U.S. Congress on Monday, March 16.  Rep. Vern Buchanan said: "Her legacy is impressive: blazing trails for women in science; inspiring generations of people from ocean experts to school children; swimming with sharks to learn about them; and founding a world-class marine laboratory that turned 60 this year." She was also honored by Sarasota County on March 17, when county commissioners presented a Certificate of Recognition to Mote leaders.
