Mote’s Chemical and Physical Ecology Program explores the chemically dynamic interactions between seawater and sediments. Using radioisotopes, we trace submarine groundwater discharge and investigate its impact on nutrient and trace element cycling in coastal and shelf environments. We also utilize sediment core experiments to explore how seawater-sediment interactions influence benthic fluxes of biologically-relevant species.
