Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium is pleased to announce the appointment of Todd Morton to its Board of Trustees. A respected Sarasota business owner and community advocate, Mr. Morton brings decades of leadership experience and a strong commitment to community engagement that will help support Mote’s mission of advancing marine science, education and conservation.
“We are honored to welcome Todd to Mote’s Board of Trustees during this exciting chapter of growth for our organization,” said President & CEO Dr. Michael P. Crosby. “His dedication to service, combined with his leadership experience and passion for making a positive impact, will be a tremendous asset as Mote continues to expand its scientific research, educational programs and conservation initiatives around the world.”
As the third-generation owner and operator of Morton’s Gourmet Market, Todd has guided one of Sarasota’s beloved family businesses for close to 20 years. Under his leadership, the market has continued to evolve while maintaining its reputation for quality, customer service and community involvement. His background in hospitality management, coupled with extensive experience in retail operations, has enabled him to successfully grow the business while strengthening its connections throughout the region.
Todd has long supported numerous charitable and civic causes. He has served as co-chair of the Morton’s Gourmet Market Annual Chili Cook-Off since 2000, helping raise funds for the Sarasota Fire Fighters Benevolent Fund. He has also supported organizations such as All Faiths Food Bank, numerous local schools, nonprofits, and community initiatives through sponsorships, partnerships, and charitable contributions. Most recently, Todd completed his term as president of The Argus Foundation.
Mote’s Board of Trustees plays an essential role in supporting the Laboratory’s mission and long-term vision. The Board’s guidance and leadership help advance the goals of Mote’s Beyond 2020 strategic plan, including the continued success of the new state-of-the-art Mote Science Education Aquarium (SEA) at Nathan Benderson Park and the evolution of Mote’s City Island campus into an International Marine Science & Technology Innovation Park.
