Dr. Christopher Sibley (he/him)

Senior Chemist

Ecotoxicology Program

Today's Research for Tomorrow's Oceans

Biography:

Dr. Sibley received both his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Virginia Tech where he worked under the guidance of Prof. Webster L. Santos. As a graduate student he studied organic synthesis and developed small molecule inhibitors of disease relevant lipid kinases. He then pursued an NIH postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. John ‘Jay’ Schneekloth Jr. at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick, MD. During his time at NCI, Dr. Sibley’s research focused on targeting RNA with druglike small molecules, particularly for cancers with no existing treatment options. In 2024, Dr. Sibley joined the Ecotoxicology research program at Mote where he studies how toxins, both natural and synthetic, affect marine ecosystems and mitigation techniques to control them. Dr. Sibley is particularly interested in the application of analytical techniques to measure and monitor toxin levels in aquatic environments.

Education:
