Biography:
Growing up in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert, the importance of protecting and preserving precious water resources has always been clear to Emily. While attending Northern Arizona University, dreams of committing to conservation became more solidified through diverse undergraduate research and projects across scientific fields including Ecology, Botany, and Mycology. After graduating in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences, Emily made the jump into Aquatic Biology through various seasonal positions including an internship at Mote Marine Laboratory’s Coral Health and Disease Program at the International Center for Coral Reef Research and Restoration in Summerland Key, Florida. During this internship, Emily was able to synthesize her skillset, passion, and drive for Marine Biology, while simultaneously falling in love with Florida’s Coral Reef. In January of 2025, Emily started as the Microbiology Technician in the Coral Health and Disease Program, contributing to resilience experiments, molecular research, and genetic management of our corals. Emily is grateful to be part of the Mote team and is looking forward to creating positive change for the blue planet we all call home.
