We are thrilled to share the grand opening date for our new Mote Science Education Aquarium (SEA) – Wednesday, October 8.

If that wasn’t exciting enough we are offering members two fin-tastic options to be among the very first to dive into discovery at Mote SEA.

We invite you to join us on Monday, October 6 and Tuesday, October 7 for our Member Only Preview Days at Mote SEA. Can’t make it during Member Preview Days? Don’t worry! Mote Members have the first chance to reserve timed, ticketed entry upon our grand opening on October 8.

Mote SEA Membership Renewal FAQs

Is the current Mote Aquarium still open?

We concluded ticket sales for Mote Aquarium on City Island, Sarasota, as we turn our full attention toward preparing to open Mote Science Education Aquarium (Mote SEA).

How does my current Mote Aquarium membership apply to Mote SEA?

All active memberships at the time of Mote SEA’s opening will automatically include access to Mote SEA.

How does this transition time affect my current membership expiration date?

We will automatically extend all Mote memberships that are active during our transition, by the respective duration of their membership time period after Mote SEA opens. You can still enjoy benefits like reciprocal discounts in the meantime!

What if I purchase a new membership during the transition time before Mote SEA opens?

Your Membership benefits will begin right away and you will be able to use your membership for reciprocal discounts and discounts on educational programs. If your purchased or renewed before September 30th your membership expiration date will be extended based on your purchase date to account for any time missed until Mote SEA opens.

Will members get any special benefits when Mote SEA opens?

Absolutely! Members will enjoy exclusive preview days before Mote SEA opens to the general public. This special event will be a first look at our new facility, featuring new immersive exhibits and a brand new world all about marine research and education. Join us Monday, October 6 and Tuesday, October 7.

What if my membership expires before Mote SEA opens?

To ensure you don’t miss out on special member benefits, we highly recommend renewing your membership now! Renewing early means you’ll stay connected through the transition and have guaranteed access to Mote SEA.

How will I receive updates about Mote SEA and member benefits?

The best way to stay informed during this exciting transition is to make sure you’re subscribed to our emails! Most updates about Mote SEA, member benefits, and your exclusive preview opportunities will be shared digitally. If you’re not receiving our emails, please check your spam folder or reach out to our Membership Team to confirm your contact information is up to date.

Can I still buy someone a gift membership before Mote SEA opens?

Yes! You can absolutely purchase a gift membership during the transition period. Gift memberships don’t activate until the recipient redeems them, which means they can wait to start their membership when they’re ready – even after Mote SEA opens. Once redeemed, we’ll ensure they receive the full duration of their membership benefits.

Will I receive a receipt or confirmation of my membership extension?

Your updated expiration date will be reflected in our system and visible when you log in to your member account. Once extensions are completed, you can request an updated digital membership card by contacting the Membership Team – we’ll be happy to email it to you!

Can I still visit other zoos and aquariums with my Mote membership during the transition?

Yes – your Mote membership continues to include access to reciprocal benefits throughout the transition! We recommend calling ahead to the institution you plan to visit, as participation, hours, and ticketing policies may vary.

Where is Mote SEA located?

Mote SEA is located at 225 University Town Center Dr., Sarasota, FL 34243, in Nathan Benderson Park near the UTC shopping district – a central, convenient location with easy access from Sarasota, Manatee, and surrounding areas.
