BooBoo

03/21/2018  Animal was found floating off Manasota Key, Sarasota County and was transported to Mote for rehabilitation.  Exam findings show that the turtle is very underweight, has numerous fibropapilloma tumors present, and has some small holes/punctures in plastron and carapace.  Blood work shows that the animal is extremely anemic, has low glucose, low calcium, high sodium, and low pulmonary perfusion.  Animal was given dextrose intravenously and fluids subcutaneously.  Animal was placed in a rehab. tank at very low water level overnight.

03/22/2018  Animal is very lethargic and inactive and lists with the left side floating on top of the water column.  Animal will be kept in very shallow water until floating resolves.  BooBoo has no interest in eating.  Also started turtle on injectable antibiotcs today.

03/27/2018  BooBoo ate some seagrass today!

03/31/2018  Turtle is still floating, despite removing air from it's body cavity.  BooBoo continues to act very lethargic, but is eating a few grams of mostly seagrass daily.  Did eat a few tentacles on it's own today and defecated for the first time today.

04/09/2018  BooBoo was getting weak and having difficulty breathing so the decision was made for humane euthanasia due to poor prognosis.
