10/23/2020 This juvenile green sea turtle was found floating off the east coast of Florida in Duval County. The turtle was then taken to The Sea Turtle Hospital at University of Florida's Whitney Lab for rehabilitation.
10/29/2020 Due to Whitney Lab running out of room for rehab patients, this turtle was transferred to Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium's Sea Turtle Hospital for continued care. This turtle was deemed "Bumble" by Mote staff, we later found out it was being called "Ruth" at Whitney Lab so it can go by both. Bumble presented with fibropapilloma tumors that will have to be removed surgically.
10/30/2020 Bumble is doing well, started eating right away. Bumble was put on an injectable antibiotic and an injectable iron supplement.
11/16/2020 Bumble has been doing great, no longer on an antibiotic but is still on injectable iron supplement. Bumble's body needs more time before undergoing fibropapilloma removal surgery.
12/13/2020 Bumble had fibropapilloma tumor removal surgery today and is now considered tumor free! Bumble will be observed for awhile in the hospital watching for fibropapilloma tumor regrowths or for any new ones growing.
01/16/2021 Bumble had a second fibropapilloma tumor removal surgery today and is now tumor free once again. Continues to do well.
02/27/2021 Bumble was moved up to one of the large dolphin rehabilitation tanks in preparation for release, but new tumor growth was noted so he/she had a third surgery to remove small tumors. Animal is now back into a smaller tank to monitor post-surgery.
03/26/2021 Bumble had another surgery today to remove some new small fibropapilloma tumors. He continues to eat well and gain weight.
04/23/2021 Bumble had another laser surgery to remove tumors.
05/29/2021 Bumble is doing well and pap removal sites are healing.
06/07/2021 Molasses, Looe, Howe, Raja, Kimbe, Brewer, Diego, and Bumble were all released by Mote staff at the beach in Ormond-by-the-Sea on Florida's east coast.
