Quince

02/15/2022  Animal was found floating near Walton Rocks Beach in St. Lucie County.  Animal is emaciated and has numerous fibropapilloma tumors present including around both eyes.  Turtle was transported to Brevard Zoo Sea Turtle Healing Center for rehabilitation.  Animal had blood work done and was started on subcutaneous fluids and injectable antibiotics.

02/17/2022  Quince was transported to Mote to free up space for incoming east coast turtles.  Animal is very lethargic and has buoyancy issues.  Continues to receive injectable antibiotics.  Quince is in a very shallow rehab. pool.

02/27/2022  Animal was anesthetized for fibropapilloma tumor removal surgery.  Although animal is still letharic and emaciated, decided to do surgery promptly due to tumor involvement in both eyes.

03/09/2022  Quince continues to have a good appetite.   Turtle is still lethargic though and experiencing buoyancy issues.  Initiated a barium study today to try to determine cause of floating.  To do so, barium-Impregnated polyethylene spheres (BIPS) were hidden in some seafood items and turtle will have radiographs taken over a course of a few days to monitor gastrointestinal function.

03/17/2022  Quince's health started to decline the last couple days.  She was dry docked for the night to prevent accidental drowning, and unfortuantely passed away.
