The Summit will launch the previous evening, April 25, with a Keynote Reception at Mote Marine Laboratory on City Island, Sarasota. Keynote speaker Jack E. Davis is an award winning author of “The Gulf: The Making of An American Sea” and professor of environmental history and sustainability studies at the University of Florida. His vivid and lyrical storytelling has earned praise from The New York Times for bringing the Gulf of Mexico to life.
The 2018 Environmental Summit’s fast-paced, interactive, engaging program includes expert panel discussions, viewpoints from local thought leaders, and provocative lightning talks connecting southwest Floridians’ environmental heritage with goals of a resilient future, emphasizing healthy waters, natural habitats, fish and wildlife — and overall quality of life.
The Summit is a catalyst for creativity, learning and collaboration that happens once every five years.

Summit presenters will include Mote scientists highlighting topics such as water quality and ocean acidification, the role of science and advocacy in environmental policy, snook research in Phillippi Creek, science-based outreach and education, and more. A dolphin presentation will be given by the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program led by Chicago Zoological Society in collaboration with Mote.
