May 1-2: Support Mote during the 2018 Giving Challenge

You can be the one to create a better environment for each other, our children and the ocean life that supports our health and happiness: Donate to Mote Marine Laboratory during the 2018 Giving Challenge on May 1 and 2 in southwest Florida.

The Giving Challenge is a 24-hour online fundraising event from noon on May 1 through noon on May 2. Instead of a telethon, the Giving Challenge is an “Internet-a-thon” that allows the community to support nonprofits in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and Desoto counties, through online donations that will be matched by area organizations.

To thank the southwest Florida community for this fantastic opportunity, Mote is offering a free session of Yoga: Om for the Oceans on May 1 at Mote’s City Island research campus. Details below.

The Giving Challenge theme is “Be the one.” One kind gesture for the ocean — Earth’s life support system — can make waves that touch many lives. Mote’s mission is to advance marine research, informal science education and public outreach, leading to new discoveries, revitalization and sustainability of the oceans and greater public understanding of marine resources. Please “be the one” to help Mote make a difference.

The last Giving Challenge in 2016 raised $115,303 for Mote and close to $13.5 million total.

“Thanks to the Giving Challenge, Mote Marine Laboratory is able to conduct innovative scientific research that is essential for improving the health of our oceans to conserve our most precious resources for future generations,” said Mote President & CEO Dr. Michael P. Crosby.

The 2018 Giving Challenge will go live at noon on May 1. Visit GivingPartnerChallenge.org and find Mote’s donation page using the search function, or give through your Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Manatee Community Foundation, or Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

The Patterson Foundation will provide a one-to-one match for all Giving Challenge donations up to $100 per donor, per organization. Thanks to a generous, anonymous donor, gifts to Mote will also be matched one-to-one.
