Women in science and philanthropy celebrated at Mote’s Tea for the Sea

More than 130 women joined Mote Marine Laboratory for its annual Tea for the Sea, which unites women in philanthropy for the pursuit of science.

The tea took place from 2:30-5 p.m. on April 27 at the Sarasota Yacht Club, 1100 John Ringling Blvd., Sarasota, Florida.

This high tea event celebrated women’s leadership in the fields of science and philanthropy and the convergence of the two. For Mote's 2017 event, the public joined the celebration for tea, hors d’oeuvres, engaging speakers and a raffle.

Two Mote scientist who have helped pave the way for woman in science spoke at the event:

  • Dr. Kevan Main, Mote Senior Scientist and Program Manager, Marine and Freshwater Aquaculture
  • Dr. Erinn Muller, Mote Staff Scientist and Program Manager, Coral Health & Disease

Kimberley Carreiro, event chair, also served as the presenting sponsor of Tea for the Sea 2017.
