It’s ‘snow’ joke!

Come spend your winter break with us here at Mote Camp. We will explore all things marine during our winter themed camps. Join us for all 6 days or pick your favorite one. Camps are open for all campers currently enrolled in 1st-5th grade and will run from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Camps are $45 for non-members and $38 for member; sign up for 3 or more days and receive a 10% discount. This registration fee includes all materials, visits to the aquarium and mammal center, and snack. Use the registration button to sign up for a ‘toasty’ winter break here in Florida.

There will be shirts available for purchase for $10 (cash or check only) each morning at check-in; sizes are limited and not guaranteed. Please note: camps will not run if minimum number is not met. A notice will go out the week prior to camp should this happen.

Mote Camp: Winter Break 2017 Offerings

Please note: For all of our Winter Break Camps, we will be in the water for part of our morning, weather-permitting.

Wednesday, December 27th, 2017: "Sea"son’s Eatings

Who doesn’t love a good feast during the winter season?! Today, campers will learn about what animals eat, how much they eat and even some strange diet habits animals have. Think you have what it takes to create the day’s menu for our animals here at Mote? Come spend the morning learning all about the food of the sea!

Thursday, December 28th, 2017: Do you ‘sea’ what I ‘sea’?

It’s easy to see ocean animals when they are jumping out of the water or maybe when we snorkel; but can you see the ones that are hidden? Campers will learn all about how animals camouflage, what countershading is and the importance of colors in the ocean. Blending in is many animals main source of protection or predation. Through exploration and games, campers will discover what animals use camouflage or have special colors!

Friday, December 29th, 2017: Jingle Bells & Animal Shells

Today we will be exploring the unique world of animal noises and shells. Through exploration and observations campers will learn all about animals that make noises and ones that have shells, even those that have both! We hope these animals can keep their bells in tune!

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018: Snowflakes of the Ocean

There are snowflakes in the ocean? No, not really but there are animals that are like snowflakes! Each snowflake has a very specific pattern just like some of our ocean animals! Campers will learn what animals have special fins, patterns or marks on them. They will think like scientists and learn about how we identify all these different animals. Think you can spot the difference?

Thursday, January 4th, 2018: Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins: Animals with Weird Names

Come explore the world of animals with weird names or funny faces! We will learn how some of these animals get their names and why they look the way they do. Just because they have funny names doesn’t mean they aren’t important. Every animal has a special place in the marine ecosystem and we will explore their role through exploration and hands-on activities.

Friday, January 5th, 2018: It’s Snowing in the Ocean

Is that snow in the ocean? Campers will learn all about what scientists call ‘marine snow’. Using our senses and critical thinking we will examine where this ‘snow’ comes from and why it is important. You may not be able to build a snowman with this ‘snow’ but our oceans depend on it!
