Current Projects

Fish and Invertebrate breeding is at the heart of Mote Aquarium’s conservation efforts.

The Aquarium currently breeds many species of fish and invertebrates, including:

  • Dwarf seahorses (Hippocampus zosterae)
  • Moon jellies (Aurelia aurita)
  • Atlantic bay nettles (Chrysaora chesapeakei)
  • Lagoon jellies (Mastigias papua)
  • Upside-down jellies (Cassiopea xamachana)
  • Gulf killifish (Fundulus grandis)
  • Feather blenny (Hypsoblennius hentzi)
  • Neon gobies (Elacatinus oceanops)
  • Peppermint shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni)
  • Sexy dancer shrimp (Thor amboinensis)
  • Banded tulip snail (Cinctura lilium)
  • Bluefin killifish (Lucania goodei)
  • Blackbanded sunfish (Enneacanthus chaetodon)

REU independent projects may explore questions centered around fish or invertebrate aquaculture techniques, animal enrichment and welfare, or live food culturing procedures.
