Kelsee discovered her passion for marine life as a child in Southern Ohio. Though that sounds strange, being so far away from the ocean wasn't going to stop her from following her dreams of becoming a marine biologist. Through volunteering at Newport Aquarium she developed another passion for teaching others about the wonderful world of marine science. She continued on to Ohio University to get her degree in Marine, Freshwater and Environmental Biology.
Starting as an intern at Mote, Kelsee felt she found the perfect place to combine her love for all things marine science and education. She admires how Mote continuously puts education first for the visitors and campers. Growing up in Ohio meant that aquariums were her only exposure to marine life; Mote Marine opened her eyes to how an aquarium can be much more than an attraction. After permanently moving to Sarasota, Florida to finish her degree at USF, she is now an Education Specialist II and eager to lead camp programs throughout the summer.
We are tremendously thankful that Mote Aquarium will be able to reopen to the public on Saturday, October 1, during normal operating hours (9:30 AM - 5:00 PM), following our closure for preparation and response to Hurricane Ian. Unfortunately, our Sharktoberfest event, which was scheduled for October 1, will be postponed. If you have purchased a ticket, please check your email for more information. Our thoughts and best wishes are with our friends, family, partners and all of those who are continuing to manage recovery efforts. Any additional updates about reopening will be provided via social media: @MoteMarineLab on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
