We are so excited to invite you to volunteer as an Aquarium Guide at our brand new facility, Mote Science Education Aquarium (Mote SEA)! Located at University Town Center, Mote SEA is home to state-of-the-art exhibits showcasing local marine life, as well as species from oceans around the world. Although Mote SEA is located about 13 miles inland from our waterfront marine research laboratory on City Island, Mote research is still our focus. Mote SEA Guides connect guests to our research by interpreting exhibits, facilitating touch exhibit interactions, and sharing their passion for the conservation of the marine environment.

Click on the blue “Get Started” button to begin the first step of the application process: completing your pre-orientation materials. This will prompt you to create an account with Canvas, our online learning platform. You will be guided step by step through the pre-orientation and application process.

Please note that at this time we are not onboarding new high school volunteers, and we will not be onboarding new high school volunteers for summer of 2025.
Volunteer Divers assist with the maintenance of some of our most iconic habitats at Mote. Standard tasks include in-water cleaning via window wiping, scrubbing and vacuuming, identifying and observing animals, maintaining back-up areas and equipment, and speaking with visitors to educate them about the animals and their ecosystems. As a bonus, Volunteer Divers in good standing have opportunities to participate in special event dives.

Occasionally, we have additional volunteer opportunities. Most require that interested individuals be a current Mote volunteer with at least 6 months of service completed as an Aquarium Guide. These opportunities may also require additional background screening and training.
If you are interested in participating as a volunteer in Sea Turtle Patrol with our Sea Turtle Conservation & Research Program (STCRP), please send an email to the STCRP at turtledata@mote.org and you will be provided with more information. Keep in mind that space is limited and there is usually a substantial waiting list for positions, so volunteer opportunities may not be immediately available.
