8/2  Turtle was found in Don Pedro Island State Park. This animal had been reported as strugglung in the surf so an FWC law enforcement officer swam out and brought turtle back to land. The turtle is very underweight,covered in barnacles and anemic. We gave fluids, took radiographs and started antibiotics. Turtle was nicknamed "Carly Rae."

9/21  Turtle has been taken off antibiotics and was weighed today.  It has gained some weight, but still needs to gain more.  Eating very well and active.

10/22 Weight gain is good, may be eligible for release soon. 11/26 We are happy to report that Carly Rae was released today from the beach.

Spotted eagle rays are big, beautiful fish related to sharks. To understand where these rays swim and the different threats they might encounter, Mote scientists co-authored the first multiyear, peer-reviewed research paper on the large-scale movements of spotted eagle rays in U.S. waters.
