Lethargic turtle on arrival.

7/14 Turtle was found floating near the Colony Beach and Tennis Resort on Longboat Key and was brought to the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital for rehabilitation.  Turtle is weak, lethargic, and underweight and has an old carapace fracture that is healed.  Turtle has been started on antibiotics, but is too weak to be placed in water.  It has been placed under a misting sprayer overnight. 7/17 Have been placing turtle in shallow water during the day and under sprayer at night.  Turtle is showing neurologic symptoms and has difficulty controlling head movements.  Concerned about possible toxicity.  Have sent out blood to determine if red tide toxin is present. 7/20 Turtle's condition has been declining.  Blood tests indicated that some red tide toxin is present, but probably not enough to cause toxicity.  Have started tube feeding turtle. 7/30 Turtle has begun to gain weight from the tube feeding, but is not showing any signs of improving, otherwise.  Have just started a new treatment in the hope of turning things around for the turtle. 8/7 New treatment does not seem to be helping as there have been no signs of improvement. 8/7pm Turtle died late this afternoon.  Necropsy will be performed tomorrow.
