Jason upon arrival at Mote. |
10/8 Jason arrived today at the Sea Turtle Hospital as a transfer from Gumbo Limbo in Boca Raton. At Gumbo Limbo, Jason already had a surgery to remove some of the fibropapilloma tumors that were on the side of its head and flippers. Jason will need to have another surgery to remove several more tumors. Just a couple hours after arriving, Jason has started to eat and is very active in the tank. 10/21 The turtle has continued to improve in activity and appetite. Jason loves the environmental enrichment devices — also called EEDs — that we provide daily. EEDs help reduce stress and provide the animals with activities that enrich their surroundings. 11/1 Over the weekend, Jason received laser surgery to remove the papilloma tumors. The turtle is recovering and has already started to eat. 11/28 Jason continues to improve and eat everything in sight! 1/3 Jason had an exam today and blood work was submitted. The results were great and we applied to Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for permission to release this turtle. 1/17 Jason was resealed today! |
