Turtle on arrival at Hospital.

6/14 Turtle was found floating in Rookery Bay NERR and was brought to the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital for treatment.  Turtle is apparently affected by spirorchidosis (lethargic loggerhead syndrome) and is exhibiting symptoms of lethargy, severe weight loss, anemia, and bouyancy problems.  It was started on antibiotics and iron injections and placed in shallow water. 6/15 Turtle was offered food and ate well this morning. 6/19 Turtle has continued to float, as we radiographed it this morning and found an area of air in its coelomic cavity.  A total of 5 liters of air was removed and the turtle is no longer floating.  Its appetite is excellent at this point. 6/21 Turtle is doing much better and has had no more flotation issues. 6/25 Turtle is now gaining weight and doing very well. 6/29 Turtle continues to improve and eats well. 7/12 Turtle continues to gain weight and improve.  Anemia is finally responding to treatment. 7/20 Anemia is continuing to respond. 7/30 Turtle is continuing to improve. 8/7 More improvement. 8/22 Continuing to improve. 9/1 Anemia is almost gone and turtle is gaining weight and doing well. 9/11 Anemia is gone.  May be releasable in the near future. 9/19 Continuing to do very well. 9/28 More of the same. 10/19 Doing very well. 10/28 Continuing to do very well, but not quite ready for release. 11/13 Turtle is now ready for release, which is planned for later this week. 11/16 Turtle was released this morning from Lido Beach, Sarasota.  Turtle moved quickly into the water and swam away.
