Photo of turtle on arrival at the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center.

12/27 Turtle was transferred here today from Volusia Marine Science Center due to a large number of strandings in their area.  This turtle shows an inability to open its jaw, but is doing fairly well otherwise. 1/3/07 Turtle is undergoing physical therapy on its jaw, but is being tube-fed. 1/12 Turtle is still not eating, but doing well otherwise. 1/18 No change yet. 1/24 Turtle has started showing some interest in food, but not yet able to eat.  Continuing to tube-feed. 1/31 Still not eating, but is gaining weight from tube-feeding.  Blood work is improved. 2/28 Turtle is showing interest in food, but unable to open its jaw on its own.  We are force-feeding now and turtle is becoming more active. 3/15 Turtle has finally begun to eat.  Still cannot open its mouth all the way, but just enough to get some food into it. 3/29 Appetite is highly variable and needs to be force fed on some days. 4/16 Last week we performed a gastroscopy and then a bronchoscopy and found an area of lung that is hemorrhaging.  No bacteria were cultured from it.  Hoping to do an MRI in the near future. 4/20 Turtle appears to be hemorrhaging internally.  Have started Vitamin K injections.  Prognosis is guarded at this point. 4/27 Turtle continues to hemorrhage internally and is extremely anemic.  Turtle was given blood transfusion yesterday and seems a little better today, but prognosis is still guarded. 4/30 Turtle died yesterday afternoon.  Necropsy this morning showed multiple hemorrhages throughout the body of the turtle.  Histopath samples were taken, but final diagnosis awaits the outcome of those samples that may take about one month.
