Turtle was released.


Smee upon arrival.

1/28   Animal found on beach in Sanibel, emaciated with fibropapillomas.  Upon further examination, it was discovered that there was a fish hook in the left front flipper.  Taken to CROW Wildlife Center for evaluation. 

1/30   Transferred to Mote for rehabilitation whereupon hook was removed.  Animal was started on antibiotics and is eating on his own.

Spotted eagle rays are big, beautiful fish related to sharks. To understand where these rays swim and the different threats they might encounter, Mote scientists co-authored the first multiyear, peer-reviewed research paper on the large-scale movements of spotted eagle rays in U.S. waters.
