Final Disposition

Released April 5, 2006 from NE end of Longboat Key

This very small turtle was found stranded on Longboat Key.  It is extremely weak and dehydrated and has small wounds on both its carapace and plastron.  Have started the turtle on fluids and antibiotics. 12/28 Turtle is still alive, but is still very weak.  Being maintained out of the water for now. 12/29 Turtle is stronger today.  It was placed in shallow water and is doing fairly well.  It shows interest in food, but is unable to open mouth enough to eat. 1/2/06 Turtle seems much stronger today and has started eating very small amounts. 1/4 Turtle is continuing to get stronger and now has a good appetite. 1/13 Turtle is now doing quite well.  Weakness is completely gone.  White count is a little high, but doing very well otherwise. 1/24 Appetite is excellent and is gaining weight. 2/1 Turtle is now doing very well. 2/11 Turtle is continuing to do very well. 2/22 Turtle is now off all medication and seems to be doing well.  May be able to release in the near future. 3/5 Still doing very well. 3/12 Turtle continues to do very well.  We are currently investigating release options. 3/22 Turtle is eating so well, its liver vales have gone up, probably from over eating.  Have cut back on diet and hope to release soon. 3/29 Have applied for release and will tag turtle on Friday. 4/5 Turtle was released this morning into Sarasota Bay off the north end of Longboat Key.
