3/24 Wicker was admitted to the hospital in a very weak condition. The turtle suffers from fibropapilloma tumors, including some that look regressive. Wicker was given fluids, antibiotics and left in very shallow water for the evening. 4/3 Wicker has started to eat sea grass and capelin. 4/25 Wicker continues to slowly improve and is eating well. The turtle had cryosurgery — which involves using liquid nitrogen — to remove two very small papilloma tumors. 5/18 Wicker has continued to gain strenght and is eating well. 6/2 Wicker continues to eat and get stronger everyday. The turtle's wounds are healing well and we have applied for permission to release the turtle. 6/10 Wicker was released this morning from Lido Beach. Quite the crowd was on hand for the turtle's departure, including several Sarasota and Tampa-area television stations! What can we say... Wicker is a star!
