Anglers become citizen scientists for Mote’s Snook Shindig

A record number of more than 60 anglers participated in the William R. Mote Memorial Snook Shindig Honoring Captain Scotty Moore, a research-based catch, sample and release tournament, which took place April 8–9. The tournament, now completing its 12th year, aimed to get the public involved in snook restocking efforts.

May 14: 13-year-old philanthropist organizes mini-golf for sea turtles

Tee up for sea turtles during a special mini-golf tournament to benefit Mote's Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program and Easter Seals Southwest Florida.   Lexi Mariash, a 13-year-old philanthropist, and her company Turtle Inc. are hosting their 2nd Annual Miniature Golf Tournament with a goal of raising $25,000 for the two local nonprofits.

Mote shark scientist shares Expedition Jacksonville updates

This past week, a team of scientists on a major shark-research expedition aboard the internationally known M/V OCEARCH tagged a second tiger shark during Expedition Jacksonville, says a participating Mote Marine Laboratory scientist who is collecting and studying shark blood samples in this team effort to learn more about large sharks in the Atlantic Ocean.

March 18, says a participating Mote Marine Laboratory scientist who is collecting and studying shark blood samples in this team effort to learn more about great white sharks in the Atlantic Ocean.
