After a long-awaited postponement due to Hurricane Ian, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium’s inaugural Sharktoberfest event went off without a hitch Saturday, Jan. 14.
Guests age 21 and older experienced Mote Aquarium as never before, savoring a highly anticipated lineup of craft beers, delicious food, live music and other festive delights.

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium is pleased to announce that Mote’s C-STEM Program has received an award of $10,000 from The Weichel Family Fund of the Manatee Community Foundation. The grant will be used in the 2022-2023 program year to fund the delivery of monthly educational programming in Manatee County throughout the academic year and supplemental programming during the summer for around 1,300 Manatee County students.

Sea turtle nesting season is officially over here on Florida’s Southwest coast, and Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium staff are looking back on outstanding nest numbers.
Mote’s Sea Turtle Conservation & Research Program (STCRP) has wrapped documenting the sea turtle nesting season on October 31, after monitoring 35 miles of beaches from Venice to Longboat Key since May.

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium scientists participated in a conference consisting of a series of workshops that brought together over 600 coral restoration practitioners, researchers, students and resource managers from around the world to share the latest techniques, technologies and science to dramatically scale-up the impact and reach of coral reef restoration. Held at Ocean Reef Club near Key Largo, Florida, this week-long event highlighted efforts made by Mote staff across a multitude of specialized research.
