Dr. Powell, a native Floridian, has been involved with manatee research and conservation for over 40 years. He has worked all over the world including living in West Africa studying manatees and forest elephants. In 1998, he directed the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission's marine mammal and sea turtle research program. Today, he serves as Executive Director of the non-profit Sea to Shore Alliance and as an adjunct Senior Scientist for Mote Marine Laboratory where he manages the Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program.
